County Cycles Charity Night

It is our privilege to host Michael Swain MBE and Major Scott Ashley who have both served in the British

The evening will consist of both speakers telling their stories along with the chance to ask them any questions you may have regarding their achievements in cycling.

The speakers will also be raising awareness for a new challenge they’re looking to undertake and give an insight into what’s involved in such complex adventures.

Speakers for the evening

Major Scott Ashley MBE

Having joined the Royal Marines Commandos in the mid-80s as a Junior Marine, Scott had an illustrious career serving on operations all over the globe and went on to reach the rank of major, being awarded an MBE from the Queen for outstanding leadership and support to operations in Afghanistan.

Unfortunately, Scott was medically discharged from the Royal Marines with Complex PTSD after 35 years’ of service.  Scott is going to talk about, how through adventure, the “Commando ethos and mindset”, plus challenging himself he has learnt to live with this debilitating injury, plus the complexities of leading and managing a team which is about to cycle through the jungles of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand with its associated dangers and difficulties.

Chris Bailey is a former member of 2 Sqn RAF Regiment, who was injured in Iraq, resulting in life-changing injuries rendering him classed as 100% disabled.
He has not let his injuries define him and has completed several challenges including cycle expeditions even though the doctors told him he wouldn’t walk again, dedicating himself to supporting veterans and their families since his discharge from service.

Chris has found that cycling has given him a new lease of life,  Chris is a proud single father to his three children and lives in glorious Mid Wales.
